The hearing ol conspiracy charges agalnet former 111 inols Central officials In the mvinlc pal court resulted today in a demand by the defeuse that Clarence II. Pol-ley, Pol-ley, former chief clerk of the Osier-ruann Osier-ruann Manufacturing company, be held to the grand jury as a self-confessed participant in the big Illinois Central car repair frauds. Policy, who was brought to Chicago from his home in California by the prosecution had given considerable evidence against Frank R. Ilarrlman, John M. Taylor and Charles E. Ewinz, tho three defendants in the conspiracy hearing. When the cross-examlnttion of Pol-ley Pol-ley was 'concluded. Attorney Hoover, for the defense, asked to address Judge Bruggemeyer, Attorney Hoover- turned to Tollej asking If Policy intended to return to California. Demande Polley Be Bound Over. "Yes, I do." said Polley. "Trwn," contended Attorney Hoover, Hoov-er, "I demand that this witness be held to the gTand jury as a seil'-con-fessed participant In the frauds that have been perpetrated against the II-linoirt II-linoirt Central." He gives facts and figures to support his confession and he admits that he has received these large sums of money. As an officer of this court, I demand that he be bound over to the grand Jury for examination on a criminal crim-inal charge." Judge Bruggemeyer ordered Attorney Attor-ney Hoover to prepare a petition containing con-taining his demand for presentation to the court tomorrow morning. |
