Show of scarlet fever among school children. chil-dren. The piping of water to the Five Points school was discussed next. The proper route to follow In bringing the water to the school house brought forth conflicting opinions from Mr. Klrcher and members of the board. The former considered running the pipes up Second street to Adams and then aeroes to Third street, but when It was suggested that twelve families on Third street had requested that tho water be broucht up past their residences, and had expressed a willingness wil-lingness to sharo in the cost of the work, Mr. Klrcher gave way, but not without expressing a doubt as to tho Third street residents' consistency In their promise. Tho matter was referred re-ferred to the waterworks committee. The legality of an election If held In a school house while school was In session, and the validity of an election elec-tion If held in any but the advertised place was the next question to Interest Inter-est tho board members. It appears that the folks out Mount Fort way had advertised an election to be held in the Mount Fort school, and that the date conflicted with the opening date of school there. The board were Ignorant of the situation until It was presented last night, not even knowing that the school house was to be used for such a purpose. The refusal of the use of the building, build-ing, on the ground that the opening of school could not bo interfered with, and that the holding of the election in It was unauthorized was considered, consider-ed, but finally It was decided that If tho ballot box was placed In a room In the nortli end of the building, away from the main hnll there would be no objections to the election being held there at that time. Superintendent Mills asked permission permis-sion to have tho gas turned on In the high school, for the purpose of using the gas stove Installed In the domestic science department, and was authorized author-ized to make the contract The employment of a medical examiner, ex-aminer, whoso duties it would bo to examine nnd attend to the pupils of the entire school system, particularly those who were backward In studl, was discussed In executive session after af-ter tho adjournment of the meeting proper. A recommendation to Install a sink-In sink-In the chemical laboratory' of the hlp:h school was turned over to the building committee. A recommendation of Superintendent Superintend-ent Mills for the allowance of $100 each to the History and English de partnionts for the purpose of purchasing purchas-ing some necesnry additions to the libraries of theso departments was allowed, after which the board adjourned ad-journed at 9:30 p. m. BOARD TO PAY BACK fflTER TAX Al tho regular meeting of the Board of Education last eight the question of the proper paineiits to the city of the hack water taxes were discussed discuss-ed to conslderahli.- length, with Superintendent Super-intendent Charles Kircher, of the Waterworks department taking an active ac-tive part The taxes have noi been paid hy the educational hoard since the taking over by the city of the water system, and the discussion centered about the manner In .which tho assessment should be computed. Reckoning tho number of individual fountains In each school building, with the faucets In line, the water superintendent superin-tendent brought the tax fur the use of the water up to something more than $2,000, but thin was conidred rather exorbitant by the board.
