Show Bi G FIRE NEAR THE GASWORKS A fire broke out shortly before 7 o'clock last night among tho buildings of the gas plant of the Utah Light and Railway company on Lincoln avenue ave-nue near Twentieth street. The amount of flame and sinoke was euor-raous euor-raous considering the small amount of damage, and the efforts required to extinguish It. The blaze started in a brick furnuce near the main building and originated from a broken connection In the pipe attached to a boiler, settiug fire to ten or twelve tar barrels close by. Immediately the flames shot skyward sky-ward until the whole heavens were illuminated il-luminated b tho blaze, the fanciful figures formed by the rcllectlon of the light upon the thick masses of black smoke making a beautiful spectacle. The heavy fumes of the burning tar hampered the work of the firemen somewhat, but Inside of twenty minutes min-utes the conflagration was under complete com-plete control of the ert-w of tho hose wagon the only apparatus sent to quench the flames. |
