Show THREE GIRLS -IN JUVENILE COURT Myrtle Griffin Once More Rides Into the Arms of the Probation Officer Of-ficer Other Offenders Are Eefore Judge Volney Gunnell Boy With a Lovo for Guns. Three girls, not yet IS years of a.?e, are locked In the county Jail awaiting the action of the Juvenile court and it in likely that Judge Volney C. Gunnell will dlspode of the casts next Tuesday mornlDg Two of the prisoners, Margaret Ilasslng-Massey and Myrtle Grlfnn. have for a long time been wards of the court, but the third girl, Margaret Marga-ret King, Is making her debut In police po-lice circles. Margaret Hasslng Ma-scy Ma-scy and Margaret King were arrested a few days ago for the theft of a watch and were turned over to the juvenile court by Judge Murphy of tne municipal court. In the municipal munici-pal court one of the girls gave her name as Massey, stating that she had been married alout four months ago. Judge Gunnell says that In the municipal mu-nicipal court her name is Hasslng p.nd that the court has not yet taken cognizance of her precocious matrimonial matri-monial venture, as the action was taken by the girl while she was a ward of the court and without the consent of the juvenile jiuge. Whether or not the girl's marriage will take her from the jurisdiction of the Juvenile court has not been definitely defi-nitely settled by the Judge, but he thinks that the fact that she was a ward of the court at the time of the marriage gives his court a sort of prior claim on the girl. The Griffin girl Is an old offender and seems to have a peculiar mania lor defrauding the proprietor of livery liv-ery stables. On several occasions the girl has hired rigs from Ogden barns and. after driving around the country coun-try for several hours, has left the rls hitched In some public place where It would be found by the police and returned to the owner. The warning of tho probation officer that' another offense of the kind would mean a sen tence In the Industrial school has not. deterred the maid lrom repeating the offense. A few days ago she telephoned the Nelson-Fell barn that a Mrs. Brown at a certain number on Twenty-third etrcet -desired to have a rig brought to her home. The rig was sent by a stable boy to the address and on the tldewalk stood Miss Griffin, who took charge of the horse and buggy, drove around the town until a late hour at night and then left the rig on tho street. In addition to the girl offenders, the juvenile court has In its charge the case of Frank Fagln. who. like his namesake In fiction, Is an adept, in stealing. Young Fagtn Is but 13 years of age, et In addition' to a number of petty theits, has to his discredit dis-credit the robbery of a residence in daylight. The boy, a few days ago, entered the residence of A. V. Brereton. 3512 Ogden avenue, while the family was away, and ransacked the houbc from cellar to garret Some money was taken and three guns were also re-j re-j moted from the house. The weapons consisted of a Browning shotguu, a 32-callber revolver and a 22-caliber rifle. The lad took the guns into the back yard of the Brereton premises and proceeded to bombard the barn. After firing all the cartridges at his disposal, the marauder left the guns In the house and departed from the premises The Fagln boy will be given a hearing hear-ing In the juvenile court this afternoon after-noon or Monday morning. Another boy, John Meers by name, is charged with stealing pups, hut It Is probable that the case will be set tied by the judge without Inflicting a very severe sentence on the offender. |
