Through insults to the American flag and assaults made openly upon American citizens in the streets, the anti-American demonstration, which began last night with the stoning ston-ing of the Mexican Herald offices, developed this afternoon into an affair of international importance. One child was struck and several injured. in-jured. Windows of the car were shattered. shat-tered. Among those assaulted was the boo of Ambassador Wrlson. Prominent Mexicans In Mob. In the progress of the students about the city. Governor Kscandon of the federal district. Felix Diaz, chief nf police, and Joaquin Casasua, former for-mer ambassador to the United Stated, followed In automobiles. At the municipal palace Governor Landa addressed words of appeal to the students, protesting but cautioning caution-ing them against violence. Ambassador Wilson, iu hi6 note to the foreign office, described the occurrence oc-currence as a disgrace to the Mexican , president, and expressed surprise that inasmuch as his office haj warning In advance of tho demonstrations, the Mexican authorities had none, or having hav-ing it, took no action. Foreign Minister Creel said this evening that every effort would" be made to punish those guilty of offering offer-ing the assault to the flag. Kill Three Rioters. Quiet was restored only after squads of mounted police with drawn sabers had repeatedly charged tho liiob, killing three of the disturbers, roughly handling scores of others and arresting more than 200. The mob battered at the heavy doors leading to the editorial and composing compos-ing rooms above with heavy timbers and fired the wreckage.- Tho police charged with drawn swords. One of the attackers was run through and killed. The others fled. An alarm turned in from the offices of the paper brought tbe fire department depart-ment to the scene before the flames gained headway.
