Show TRYOUT OF NIGHT BASEBALL PROVES DECIDED SUCCESS Chicago, Aug. 26. C. A. Comlskey's recently Installed lights received their first real tryout at the American lengne grounds last night when the Illinois Athletic club and Calumet La Crosse teams battled for over two hours in a fast match In the glare of over ono million candle power of light which constitutes a portion of the light plant that will give Chicago night baseball In the near future. The plant proved Itself equal to the occasion. oc-casion. The Illinois Athletic club won the game, 11 to 10. but this fact was lost to view In the confusion resulting from tho pronounced success of tho light plant and at that the ground lights wero curtailed and only half the power was in U6e. At no tlmo during the eighty minutes of play did tho players find It hard to follow tho ball and the game proved as fast and as Interesting as If It had been played play-ed In broad daylight. No complaint was beard from the players and with the roof lights covered, the contestants contest-ants were In no way bothered by tho force of the lamps. |
