Show SHOULD REMEDY THE CONDITIONS. In the Weber county jail at the present time there are fourteen men who are awaiting their trials in the district court for various offenses. of-fenses. Some of the men have been in the jail for several months. The delay in tho trial of Weber county prisoners ha3 occurred before and attention was called to it in the press. Whether the fault lies with the attorneys for the defendants or with the district attorney attor-ney is not known, but the conditions are such a3 should be remedied immediately. At the present time there are an average of three men confined in one cell or cage, about six feet by eight feot. In some of these cells three prisoners are kept at night. In the daytime they are allowed the liberty of the main corridor. Among the inmates there is one that is sick and does not occupy a cell, but sleeps in the main corridor. The jail is very crowded and the conditions are such as to threaten the health of the inmates. |
