Show TWO ME NARRESTED WITHOUT EXCUSE. Salt Iake. Aug. 9 H. W. Howell, a railway clerk and Earl E. Pender, a sludent of Denver unhersity. who were arrested by Patrolmen II. K. Sleater.- George Burton and George Cleveland enrly yesterday morning upon unreliable information that they were two highwaymen whi robbed an O S L. train above Ovdrii two months ago. were released from custody cus-tody vesterdav noon. Under instructions of Lieutenant R. L. Shannon. Howell and Pender were arrested upon the meager Information of an unknown man. nho claimed to have been on the train when it was robbed. The police did not obtain the name of the man v. ha furnished the information, and let him go on the promise that he would identify Howell How-ell and Pender yesterday morning as the train robbers. z More anxious to catch a car to get home than in finding out whether a blunder had been mad in the arrest of Howell and Pender. Lieutenant Shannon ordered them locked up In the city jail. When officials; of the O. S L. called at police headquarters yesterday morning they Informed tbe police that Howell and Pender bore no resepiblancp tn the trsin robbers Howell and Pender are young men of good reputation, and proed this lo the police before they were locked nn In Ihe city .-all.
