Show HERSCHEL BULLEN DIES J CACHE Richmond. June 27. Herschel Bui-leu, Bui-leu, Sr., ono of the best known citizens citi-zens of the state, died at hla old home In this citv todav of rheumatic fever. His death was very sudden, I as ho had only been sick about three days. At the time of his death, on account of his dying bo suddenly, only a few members of the family were at his bedside. He will be burled from tho family residence In this city Wednesday Wed-nesday afternoon. Herschel Bullen, Sr., although tho ; last fifty years of his llfo have been spent In Cache county, was one of the i best known men of the state. Ho was j born In Mercel, Me., January 10, 1S4Q. When but 6lx years old ho sailed with j his parents around Cape Horn to California, Cal-ifornia, where they landed in 1847. After reaching California they set out at once for Utah, and reached Salt ' I-ike early in 1S4S. The family home was built near the old Pioneer square, where he lived until he came to Cache valley In ISfiO and took up his home-j home-j stead at Richmond. I When but 15 years old, his father i died, and the cares of tho entire family fam-ily were placed upon him. and until the other members of the family were able to care for themselves, he was : their only support After coming to Richmond and starting start-ing his farm, he took an active part In the railroad construction of tho fctato. Ho directed construction of tho Rio Grande from Price, Utah, to Salt Lake. After completing this work, ho did considerable work for tho Oregon Short Line railroad, and built tho main line of this road as far north as Weston, Ida After leaving railroad work, he again went buck to his farm, where he remained until he was appointed to tho state land board by Goernor Wells. He retained retain-ed this position for three years, and again engaged in active farm work In Cache valley Besides a widow, he leaves a brother, broth-er, Newell Bullen, nnd six children to mourn his death His sons are Herschel, Her-schel, Jr., Roy and Asa. |
