Show OBSERVANCE OF THE PENTECOST Tenterost was observed yesterday in the First Presbyterian church with a wealth of the best music and song The church auditorium was very tastily tast-ily decorated with Mowers und In spite of the conlluous rain a large number gathered at the three services. The music rendered was of a very high standard, many of the numbers be. ing from the classic compositions of the world's best composers. Those who look part In the services wero nt their best and the musical selections more than repaid for brav lng the inclement weather. Besides Misses Orn, Mltch.-l, Belknap. Bart-lett Bart-lett and (ieddes, Mrs. Stevens and Mr. Saunders of the Ogden singerp. Miss Dwyer and Mr. Squires of Salt Lake City took prominent parts upon the program. Mr. Short and Miss Hamlll as violinists and Miss Blddto as pianist did very much to make the musical numbers so acceptable. Many very favorable comments were made upon the high standard of the three services. They showed again the richness rich-ness of talent to be found among our own people All of the selections showed long training and hard study in those tsking part. The quintet given by Misses Corn and Mltchel, Mrs. Stevens and Messrs. Saunders and Squires was worthy of Bpeclal mention. The parts were very well adapted to the voices and the blending was excellent. The solo numbers were the best heard In Ogden for some time and by the appreciate e reception that was given them showed how completely those Interpreting them entered Into the spirit of the composers. In these the Ogden voices were aided by the numbers given by Miss Dwyer and Mr, Squires of Salt Lake City. Some of the numbers called for much sympathetic sym-pathetic feeling and in this respect the numbers were wU given. The services demonstrated again (hat the work of the masters of soug, when well given, will find a responsive respon-sive hearing when the higher compositions com-positions fall- This was true of the Instrumental as well as of the vocal selections. |
