Show SHOCKS ALARM J THE CAUFORNIANS IX)S ANGELES, May 15. This city and surrounding territory was visited today by a series of earthquake shocks that alarmed many people, but dbl little damage beyond breaking dishes, destroying house ornaments and cracking walls of the lighter class nf construction. The shocks began about 6:50 o'clock i this morning and were felt as late ai 7:3u this evening at t ho beach resorts and at Pasadena, Riverside, Redlands and San Bernardino, where others occurred oc-curred last Thursday night. Pasadena suffered the heaviest damage, so far as reported. Several buildings were cracked, plaster foil from numerous ceilings, and on Mount Wilson, where the Carnegie observatory Is situated, the tremors alarmed many tourists, who had climbed to the peak to gt views of tho comet. The quake camo as u double shock, with a swaying motion, which gave the mountain climbers a sensation of seasickness. The mountain top rcked perceptibly. At Long Deach the strand was washed by a small tidal wave Just after the first shock there, shortly before be-fore 7 o'clock. Another tremor followed, fol-lowed, and then the ocean, which hari been unusually boisterous all morning, fell suddenly flat and became, for more than an hour, as smooth as a bay lu a calm. In this city and In Riverside many sleepers were awakened by dishes clattering from shelves to the floor. Residents of the suburbs rushed out of their houses, but no really serious damage was reported. A second shock visited Riverside shortly after noon.
