The thirteenth day of the month is usually the unlucky day for mauy persons, while many others would not perform any business nor undertake any tranHattlon nor begin be-gin a Journey on Friday. But when Friday comes on the thirteenth thir-teenth day of the month the prospect Is one that will send the shivers coursing cour-sing up and down the spinal column of many of those who believe in signs and omens If superstitions are founded on fact, and If there is any real cause for the belief In the "hoodoo" powers of certain cer-tain days and numbers. Friday tho 13th should be a black day Indeed. The superstitious will be afraid to light the tire in the morning for fear the hoiiKe will burn d wn. They will be afraid lo go without a fire for fear they will catch cold and die. They will be afraid to go to work for fear of being klllfd or maimed on the way, and they will fear to remain nt home lest they bo "fired'' by the boss for falling to show up on time But there arc those who have given fcignu and omens a careful study and who say they have reduced It to a kclence. They say that resardlesn of tho fact that it is black Friday and hangman's day combined, that no harm will come, afl one hoodoo offsets another, thus reducing the possibility of bad luck to normal. On tho other haud, they say that one hoodoo offsetting offset-ting another will make the day even moro than unusually lucky, as tho or-dinary or-dinary hoodooes will hnve been driven to th tall timber.
