Show HEROES' GRAVES ARE DECORATED. Flowers Strewn Over Last Resting Places of Thirty-Six Veterans Sunday. Salt Lake, May SO. Thirty-six graves In the City cemetery, the eter-rml eter-rml resting place of thirty six veterans veter-ans who fought valiantly In the great Civil war, were decorated Sunday by the local organization of the Sons and Daughters of Veterans, under the direction di-rection of officers of the G. A. R. posts In this city. The program of the day consisted simply In placing a wreath of flowers flow-ers on the jrravt? of each departed hero aa a token of the love of tho living for the memory of the honored dead. No speeches were made, nor music rendered, but the services were beautiful beau-tiful because of their extreme simplicity. sim-plicity. Offerings of School Chfldren. Tho flowers used to decorate the graves were contrlbutd by tho school children of the city and there was an abundance for the making of all the wreaths necessary In the decorating work. These floral offerings were gathered under tho direction of Theodore Theo-dore Waltensplel, commander of Mc-Kean Mc-Kean post. G A. R-. and chairman of the flower committee, and mad Into wreaths by the Daughters of Veterans. Veter-ans. At 3:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon about twenty-five members of the Sons and Daughters of Veterans, together to-gether with the commanding officers of McKean and Maxwell post. Mr. Waltensplel and Captain R. Oehler. left the place of assembly, just west of the postofHre, and boarded street cars for the City cemetery'- At the cemetery the simple service of placing a wreath on each grave was completed complet-ed In about half an hour. A small American flag had been placed at each grave, so that it was easy for the members of the decorating party to find the !Rt resting place of each of the veterans. W. R. C. and Ladles Help. Associated with the Sons and Daughters of Veterans and the G. A. R. officers In the work of decorating were several members r.f the W. R. C. and the ladloa of the G. A. R. The committee on arranyeinents consisted of W. R. Graham of the Sons and pauEhters of Veternns. and W. P. Rowe. Much of the success In obtaining sufficient flowers was due to the work of Mr. Waltensplel, chairman chair-man of the flower committee. Captain R. Oehler, commander of Maxwell post, will recommend that next year the school children make the wreaths ns well as donate th- I flowers. He says that It will bo an added lesson In putrlotlsm. . i |
