Show THROUGH THE WASH AGAIN. Tho Clark road, known as the Salt Lake route, may be rebuilt through the Meadow Valley wash. The surveyors have failed to find a pass, either north or south of the old line, which offers a grade that is not prohibitive without the expenditure of vast sums of money. This has forced them back to further consideration of the "wash." When the flood came on the first of the year, there were 25 locomotives isolated on the stretch of track, also a passenger train, a freight train and other rolling stock. One of the freight trains, with its load of livestock, was carried into the bottom of the canyon and destroyed- The marooned equipment is an inducement, impelling impell-ing the Clark people to rebuild through the "wash." A message from W. A. Clark, who is in New York, says a final decision has been reached to rebuild through the Meadow Valley wash, and one of the Salt Lake papers, in commenting on the good word, says that on this ground are many steel bridges, thousands of tons of material and a temporary track will not only open through traffic between Salt Lake and Los Angeles, but will give a base along the entire line from Barclay to Rox, from which to attack the new work in a score of places. A temporary track will be laid down the wash just as soon as the spring floods are over and it is safe to do so. This will be by May or June, depending on weather conditions. This track can be built for $400,000. When the line higher up on the side of the canyon is done the temporary track will bo taken up. |
