Our real estate men are about as much in need of a prodding as any part of this community. REAL ESTATE MEN COMPLAIN. The Real Estate association sent a communication to the city council last evening, offering criticism on the condition of the streets for months past and urging the city administration to proceed im-mediately im-mediately to clean up the roadways. The authors of the communication communica-tion are hard to please. For three months Ogden's streets have been under snow and ice and a large street gang has been kept busy dig-ging dig-ging ice from the gutters to open the waterways. If there has been dirt in the street, the dirt has been buried under the ice, where neither scraper nor shovel could reach it, except ex-cept at great expense. On Monjday, while the real estate men were indicting their communication com-munication of consure, the ice had just started to thaw. Even today the edges of tho streets are coated with frost and cannot be attacked by the street force. Does it not seem strange, with so much to do that might be serviceable, aidful and beneficial to this city, the real estate men find no time for anything but misdirected and frivolous criticism. For a week or more the city street department will have a heavy duty constantly at hand in guarding against the possibility of floods. That is the most urgent demand. A little later, and at a more opportune time, the general clean up after the winter storms, will be at hand, and there is reason to believe the street department will do its work thoroughly and satisfactorily. The Real Estate association has its field of usefulness quite as great and aa responsible as that of the city administration. The members of that organisation should labor for the reduction of fire insurance, they should make it possible to obtain some of th.e in-wtraace in-wtraace money for investment in Ogden; they should offer to strangers strang-ers and our own people better tmd more modem dwellings; they |
