Show ARCH-DEACON EMERY RESIGNS. Oakland. March 29. Arch-deacon Emery, who for almost a decade has presided over the missionary field or thin jurisdiction, has resigned. His formal resignation, together with a letter let-ter containing his reasons for wishing to sever his connection with the diocese dio-cese of California, has been placed in the hands of Bishop Nichols, who has, however, not. yet seen fit to act upon It or to make the letter public. The notoriety, coming at this time through the marriage of his daughter, Helen, to Gunjlro Aokl, has been a source ot great worry to the clergyman and because be-cause of the Interest and criticism it has excited throughout the state, ho thought it best to resign. San Francisco, March 29. When asked regarding the resignation or Arch-deacon Emery. Bishop Nichols would say no more than: "I see no reason at all why his resignation should enter into this trouble." |
