Marking Mark-ing the completion of the line of steel connecting Chicago and Seattle, the last spike In tho new transcontinental railroad, the Chicago, Milwaukee & fugot Sound, was driven at 6 o'clock this evening, one and three-quarter mlloR east of Mlesouki. There was no golden spike ceremony; besides the crew of the track laying outfit, there were present at the conclusion of the work only Chief Engineer Daurhy and Beveral officials of tho road from Missoula Mis-soula headquarters. The few bridges on the lino remaining remain-ing unfinished will be completed In three weeks, ballasting work will consume con-sume but a few weeks more, and within with-in sixty days It is expected the road wll! be turned over to the operating department and through train service established. The total length of the new road is 2.436 miles. |
