Show ST. MARY'S DEDICATION POSTPONED TO AUGUST Cardinal Gibbons and Three Distinguished Distin-guished Archbishops to Participate. Salt Lake, March 19. It had beeu intended by Bishop Lawrence Scanlan and staff that St. Mary's new cathedral cathe-dral should be dedicated on June C, 1909. but when Senator and Mrs. Thomas Kearns were east attending the Inaugural of President Taft they visited Cardinal James Gibbons, who had been engaged to be present at the Interesting ceremony. His eminence Informed his visitors that the date for J the dedication had been postponed to August 15, 1909, and that Bishop Scanlan, Scan-lan, who is still In Arizona, had been advised, and had signified his accept ance of the necossnry postponement. The ceremony will 'gain dignity by this postponement, for the reason that there will be a largo gathering of the higher dignitaries of the Catholic church, who will be present at tho August services. In addition to Cardinal Car-dinal Gibbons, there will be Archbishop Archbish-op Patrick Rvan of Philadelphia, Archbishop Arch-bishop John" Ireland of St. Paul and Archbishop Michael Glennon of St. Louis. The members of this dlstln- gulshed partv are to be the guests of R. C. Kerens, the capitalist of St. Ivouls, who is financially interested in i the San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt j Lake railroad, and who is to be am- j bassador to Austria. They will start from Baltimore In one of the most magnificent private cars that can be provided, and will Journey In this way I to Salt Lake. Subsequent to the dedication of the j cathedral, the party will enjoy a trip to the Yellowstone National Park, tho railroad Journey to be made in tho same palatlon car under the care of the same generous host. |
