Show A PROHIBITION DEBATE. A dispatch from St. Paul says the first of a series of three national debates de-bates on tho prohibition question will take place in Milwaukee on Friday evening next botwoen Mayor David S. Rose of Milwaukee, and Prof. Samuel A. Dickie of Albion. Mich. Prof. Dickie will argue that prohibition so far as it relates to the sale of intoxicating intoxi-cating liquor is right, and Mayor Rose will take tho negative 6lde and try to show that prohibition is wrong. Lator on another debate on tho same subject between tho same men will probably be held in Chicago, and the third ono will probable be held In one of the largo cities of tho South, but the places for the next twojllscus6lons have not. yet been decided upon.' In the three debates which are to bo held Professor Dickie will act as the representative of the National Prohibition party. He is president of the Albion college In Michigan and la said to be the brightest and ablest prohibition pro-hibition orator in the movement While Mayor Rose does not represent any one but himself, bis antl-prohlbltion sentiments are well known throughout through-out the country. Mayor Rose was recently Invited to deliver a lecture at a convention at tho Model License League in Louisville. It was during this address that ho challenged the National Prohibition party to select a representative to debate de-bate with him on the prohibition question. ques-tion. On his return home the Prohibitionists Prohi-bitionists promptly sent him a letter asking him whether tho newspapers had correctly quoted him. and upon his replying that they had, Professor Dickie was immediately chosen, and the three debates were arranged. Tho discussions aro attracting a great deal of attention, not only in prohibition circles, but also among those who aro opposed to prohibition. |
