CUBAN SUGAR MEN I RAISE ATTACK FUND 1 HAVANA, Cuba, Oct. 27. Reduction of the sugar duty I fixed by the Fordney-McCumber tariff law will be sought im- j i ; mediately, it was announced today at the provisional offices of j the recently formed national commission for the defense of x I Cuban industries. Satisfactory progress is being made in the j J collection of a fund of $70,000 which will be used to finance ; ! the commission's campaign for more favorable duties, it was i added, and the announcement of the procedure by the tariff commission is expected to hasten initiation of the campaign. Sugar interests which reap the greatest benefits should the duties on Cuban products be reduced are raising $20,000 of this defense fund. The commission's campaign is independent to that being conducted to secure more favorable tariff treatment through a j ; revision of the Cuban-American reciprocity treaty.
