The first day of the Inquiry by the naval hoard of ln eMtlgutlon. appointed by Secretary Denby of the navy to Investigate Inves-tigate the alleged drinking scandal . ;ind disgraceful conduct by midshipmen midship-men after the Army-Navy football I game at Philadelphia last Saturday. I showed no testimony to substantiate the report that any of the midshipmen midship-men acted in other than a gentleman ly manner. Wilson, superintendent su-perintendent of the academy, was tho first witness to be called before tho board He testified that he had direct di-rect supervision over arrangements for the trip of the midshipmen to Philadelphia, but stated he knew nothing of the reported drinking at the ball. He also state. that he was unable to attend the ball and returned to Annapolis Immediately after tho game( owing to the illness of Mrs. Wilson. Ho said it was the duty of any naval officer present, whether ou ' duty or not. to report any act3 of lm- proper conduct. ! |
