Show RAILS ORDERED FOR S. P. LINES Fifty Thousand Tons Will Be Placed Along; Pacific Pa-cific System The Southern Pacific company ha placed an order with Steel plants In the east for 75.UOO gross tons of rails fur dMei- in 1 2 3 . aciordlng to announcement an-nouncement mad'' here today by Wil-i Wil-i llam Sproule, president of the com-ian'-. The value of the order is between be-tween $3H000 and $4,000,000. Of tho amount of rails ordered, substantially sub-stantially 73.400 tons were placed with the Tennessee Coal, Iron and Railroad Rail-road company and the balance' with the Lorain Steel company Approximately S0.000 tons of the rails or fwo-thiMs of the amount ordered, or-dered, will be used on the Pacific system sys-tem of the South "rn Pacific. This Will provide a total of 320 miles of rails for use in the west, of which 217 miles Is to be of ) 10-pound rails and 113 miles of 90-pound rails. The 110-pound rails are said to be the heaviest ever used In rnllrood construction con-struction work west of the Rocky Mountains. Increasing traflic In the west and the use of new and heavier locomotives locomo-tives In hauling trains Is responsible to a large extent for the huge rail order or-der placed by the Southern Pacific.
