Show MICHIGAN'S PRIMARIES. Michigan's defeat of General Wood in the Republican primaries is not fatal to the candidacy of the former friend of Theodore Roosevelt, Roose-velt, but it is a serious blow to the aspirations of the man. The situation sit-uation now developing is somewhat similar to that of 1912. The Progressives, represented by Johnson, arc exchanging blows in the primaries with the 'old guard, and these conflicts must create animosities ani-mosities which will be overcomo unless General "Wood and his supporters sup-porters displav greater tact than did the opponents of Roosevelt in 1912. The Michigan primaries prove Hiram Johnson to be a popular leader, with a personal following extending into the heart of the great Republican strongholds, and he is certain to be a mighty factor fac-tor in determining tho fate of his party in this campaign. |
