Show AMOS I. STONE DISKED 70 Pioneer Resident Did Much Toward Upbuilding Ogden; Lived Here 63 Years Amos I Stone, pioneer-resident of. Ogden. di?d at his home, 1G4S Liberty .avenue, at 4 o clock yesterday alcr-noon alcr-noon of bronchitis and complications. In the death of Mr. Stone the city loses one of its sturdy citizens, a man who did much toward the upbuilding of the city from the time ilw as a "settlement" "set-tlement" until the present. I ?.Ir. Stone was 70 years of age at his! death. He was born September 1, 1S-10 at Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son o( Amos Pease Stone and' Minerva Lean-tine Lean-tine Jones. I He was married November 26, 1S70 at Slatervilje to Emilar Wlebb, daughter daugh-ter of Charles and Jane Webb. He had come to Utah with his parents in 1850.1 Their outfit had consisted of three: yoke of oxen, one yoke of cows and ! two wagons. His mother drove one or the teams most of the way. The par'y reached Salt Lake September 30. 1S50. Five days later the father located with his family at Sessions settlement, then known as North Canyon ward on what was later called Stone creek, ten miles north of Salt Lake. The family moved to Ogden in 1S57 and from that t5me Amos I. Stone was an active figure fig-ure in the civil and political life-of the community! While still a young man he assisted his father in carrying out a contract for the construction of part of the Utah Central track between Ogden and Salt Lake and is listed at the State Capitol as one of the pioneer builders of the road. More than 40-years-ago he was chos er. as "water master for Mill Creek, which position he held until his death without remuneration. During this period per-iod he defended many irrigation suits in. the district court. He was a farmer and fruit raiser and was interested in several mining activities. He served one term in the city council. Mr. Stone leaves his wife and the following children: Amos Stone, Ray W. Stone and Mrs. Myrtle R. 1 Brown. The brothers and sisters arcs Mrs. Emily A. Tuttle of Bountiful;-Mrs. Bountiful;-Mrs. Olive A. Parry. Mrs. Minerva P. Shaw. Merlin J. Stone, Mrs. Sylvia Alvord, Mrs. Vlncy R. Barker, Mrs-Elizabeth Mrs-Elizabeth Moore, Lewis P. Stone, Mrs. Laura J. Tribe and Bernard S. Stone, all of Ogden. There are five grandchildren. grand-children. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday in jLhe Seventh ward meeting house with Desmond Barker, bishop's counsellor, conducting. The body may be viewed at the homo on Liberty avenue tomorrow afternoon and Saturday until 1 o"clock. oo |
