S., j recently annexed his first national indoor in-door tennis title. He won the cham-' cham-' pionship by defeating young Vincent Richards, 1919 titleholder, in the final setlo of the tourney staged In New York. Tilden and Richards won the doubles dou-bles title by defeating Sam Hardy and S. Howard Voshell. It is an odd coincidence that Richards Rich-ards defeated Tilden in the final match for the title last year and these same two men won the doubles title, defending it. again this year. " Tilden hns been one of the ranking tennis stars for several seasons. lie v.as placed second in 191S and 1919. He won the national clay court title in 19 IS. He was runner up for tho national na-tional title last season, being beaten in the final by William M. Johnston. G14, 6-4. G-3. He is known as one of the most ver satile playera in the game.
