Show I PIONEERING THE WAY. A-'remarkable coincidence was the coming to Ogden on Tonday of Colonel Jordan of 'the government's aero mail service. Fifty-one Fifty-one years ago on that date May 30 the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroads were completed by the driving of the golden spike. A few men arc living who saw that great event, of a little over a half century ago! but none of them, Ave venture to state, had the remotest idea that, within their lives, a government official would be here on a mission of air navigation. Colonel Jordan has bean doing considerable pioneering. He was present on the sand dunes of the south Atlantic coast when the Wright Brothers flew their first air machine and .he has hod an important part in nearly all the big advauecs since made in the development de-velopment of the airplane. Me hoav is mapping the route, for the first transcontinental mail service through the air which, when an accomplished fact, will be 'more wonderful than the first through mail by railroad. |
