Show WIN BIG FIGHT Resolution Goes to House Where Speedy Action Is Expected. DEMONSTRATION HELD' IN SENATE CHAMBER Opponents Declare Sentiment Is Against Ratification and Defeat Is Sure, DOVER, Del., May 5. The resolution resolu-tion to ratify the proposed federal woman wo-man suffrage amendment which had been in committee since March 2-1, was adopted by the sennto today upon tho re-assembling of tne s:ato legislature legisla-ture after a recess of two weeks. The vote was eleven to six. Only two Republicans voted against the measuro and but one Democrat supported it. Suffragists held a big demonstration in the senate chamber after the vote was announced. It is proposod to send tho resolution to the house tomorrow, whore speedy action on it is expected. Although the lower branch of the legislature defeated de-feated a similar resolution on April 1 by a vote of 22 to 9, suffragist leaders lead-ers claim to havo increased their strength sufficiently to assuro tho concurrence con-currence of tho houso in the senate measure. Anti-suffragists deny this and. declare de-clare sentiment in tho houso against ratification is as strong as ever and that tho measure surely will be defeated de-feated by that body. WASHINGTON, May 5. Resolutions urging the Delaware legislature to ratify rat-ify tho suffrage amendment were adopted tonight by the Republican congressional committee and transmitted trans-mitted to tho speaker of the house at Dover. In view of the" action of tho senate today in voting to ratify, Republican Re-publican members of the houso were requested to fall in line and make Delaware the thirty-sixth state to ratify. |
