Now ha Juat reached Heflln, Ala., that four men wor killed and nine wounded In Randolph county the latter lat-ter prt of laat week by a desperate nettro named Bird go. The sheriff and posse are lo pursuit, but have nob yet boen ablo to capture the murderer. Tho troublo marted OVer a difficulty In a watermelon patch. A party of white mon wore working on the pub-lie pub-lie road at Heaver Creek, near Lamnr. Bledge haa a watormclun patch near the road, and when the men finished wroklng they askod permission to cat a few melons. Bledgo told them to help themselves, but requested that they take caro not to destroy the vlnea. Aa soon a the men entered the patch they began to cut and slash melons In every direction. Th negro warned them to atop, and theu went after a gun. Returning, he emptied the weapon Into tbe crowd, wounding nine out of elevon. Immediately after the shooting Bledge fled. A posse overtook the negru near Wedowee. He waa ordered to surrender, but replied by firing his aholwun. Instantly kllllea Thomas Kl.bllt and Robert Ford. Later Bledge waa acroated on th road hy Jamea Moore and Uud Wilson. Without warning the negro raised hi gun and fired. Inatantly killing Moor and fatally wounding Wilson. |
