Little additional Information concerning the action of the Colombian Colom-bian senate could be obtained at the atat) department Mr. Adeo. acting secretary, would not say what course th United States would pursue. The reason given for the rejection of the treaty by tho Columbian senate, sen-ate, It I said here, wa the alleged encroachment en-croachment on Colnmblnn sovereignty, which Its opponent contended would rosult from the treaty. A dispatch from Colon says th rejection re-jection of the rnal treaty by the Colombian Co-lombian senate ha produced a tre-tnendoua tre-tnendoua aensatlnn on the Isthmus. It waa generally thought that the treaty would paaa with Borne modlflcatlona. It will be Impossible for President Marroquln to again submit tho treaty to the Colombian congresa In Its present pres-ent form. Tbe treaty cannot again com before that body. President Marroquln. however, ran send the treaty, slightly amended, to th senate sen-ate and reopen tbe canal debate It I believed at tho Colombian legation that Prealdent Marroquln will adopt some such procedure.
