Show UU i Marines' Ant-Bear Pines in the Zooj CINCINNATI, 0., Jan. 28 "Jimmy," ! the Mexican ant-bear, which served ; throughout-the world war as mascot of j the marine brigade in Franceand was i wounded in action, may soon be lost to j the Cincinnati zoo. Marines who serv-1 ed in France, aiul who will form the nucleus of a new expeditionary force to be stationed at Quantlco, Va., want to get "Jimmy"- back again. Like all sea-faring men they are su- 1 perstitious. and fear that they will have bad luck in any future ventures if they allow their mascot to remain in a zoo. Jimmy was picked up by the marines ma-rines in Vera Cruz in 191-1. He did a tour of duty aboard a battleship, and then went to France with the marine brigade He was the first ant-bear the French had ever seen, and he " amused the adults but scared the chil- , dren. He has a long flexible nose, I ideal for the exploration of half empty i jam cans. ; oo 1 |
