Show BISHOP NIBLEY WILL CELEBRATE 71ST . BIRTHDAY C. W. Nlbley, presiding bishop of the L. D. S. church, will celebrate his I seventy-first birthday anniversary at a family dinner to bo given at 6:30 o'clock tonight at the Hotel Utah. Bishop Nlbley has been widely known In Utah for his endeavors in behalf of the best Interests of the state. Born In Hunterfleld, Sctoland, near Edinburgh, February 5, 1S49, he emigrated emi-grated to this country with his parents who had joined the Mormon faitth ,in Scotland,. He was 6 years old when the family arrived In this country. He first settled in Rhode Island with his father and mother and began work In the woolen mills as a weaver. After two years at this trade he came west with his parents and settled in Wclls-villo, Wclls-villo, Cache county, Utah, where, as a ooy ne iooic up snoop neruing. ( Bishop Nlbley settled in Salt Lake 'and became interested in a number I of lumber companies. Later he took I under guidance the destinies of the I sugar Industry in Utah. Bishop Nibley was appointed presiding presid-ing bishop in the L. D. S. church December De-cember 31, 1907, and has held that position since. In. addition to his services serv-ices as bishop. Mr. Nibley has served on two missions, one in the eastern states and one in England. He has also been active In all church work. Since his youth Bishop Nibley has been identified with the great industries indus-tries of the state. He has ably helped in the development of numerous enterprises en-terprises In Utah, Idaho, Oregon, California Cali-fornia and Washington. At present he is general manager of tho Utah-Idaho Sugar company, director of the Western West-ern Pacific Railway company and associated as-sociated with numerous city banks. At the dinner given in his honor tonight, to-night, only close relatives will attend. They will include his seventeen children chil-dren and thirty-five grandchildren. |
