Show Hi Hines Declares H President's Word On Wages Final I WASHINGTON, Aug. 26 Director. .' General Hines, according to a letter ti rent to the locals, told the committeo -. that the proposition as presented by ! tile president was final and there ' ? . . would be no wage increases granted to any other class of railroad employes, as a class, but in the event of unjust inequalities as between individual, adjustments ad-justments involving decisions to equal izc pay would be made where justified. The committee thereupon informed the locals that the director-general had been advised that his proposition could ( not be accepted as a basis of settlc-I settlc-I ment by them and continued. "Practically every class of railroad employes have now submitted request for very substantial increases over existing ex-isting rates of pay It is well that on." members give very serious cons'deri-tion cons'deri-tion to this fact if there is to be any additional general increase In the wages of railroad employes, the federated feder-ated shop trades will receive the same consideration. Don't fail to give this statement careful thought and don't forget that if the federated shop trades become involved in a strike now, you are striking alone to force an increase for the 2,000.000 railroad employes. "In view of the foregoing facts, thev statementr contained in the presi-oent's presi-oent's letter and the responsibility that must be assumed, if a suspension j of work is to take place, your executive execu-tive council has decided that it would fail in its duty were it to authorize a strike until the membership have had an opportunity to dee'de their cour-j of action on this proposition. It Is j not our intention to shirk any of our , responsibilities as executive officers nnd the wishes of a constitutional majority ma-jority or the membership, expressed by their vote as hereinafter directed, will 1 be earned cut." The letter then gives instructions :for an immediate summoning of the members of tm; various locals to take a secret vote. It was pointed out that owing to the large numbers involved, jit must be understood that the respective respec-tive international obligations would not be obliged to pay strike benefits beyond the limits of the funds available avail-able for that purpose. oo |
