Show MEN WANTED BY THE ARMY TO SERVE IN SIBERIA OR JOIN THE TROOPS NOW ON THE RHINE i With the reopening of BChoola throughout the state during the early part of next week, special effort on the part of the United States army recruit ing offices in Utah hare been started ,in an effort to enlist men for the reserve re-serve officers' training school at the Uhlversltj Of I'tah. Word to this effect ef-fect was received here tloday by Sergeant Ser-geant E. A Stumpf. 2474 '-j Washington Washing-ton avenue, in charge of local recruiting recruit-ing The orders were from Colonel Leo of the salt Lake office and II Is ex-P ex-P cted that scores of students who ex-peel ex-peel to attend the University of Utah will join the colors, and make their way through school at the government govern-ment s expense. Efforts will be made to enlist pros-pectl pros-pectl o tiniN rsit .-ludents bi'iori S p tember 1. The men, however, must bo properly qualified for enlistment. The government will furnish commutation quarters for all students who enlist and will allow each individual abouf $98 a month for subsistence money and for pay. This is a special offer to unl versity students and it is expected tha the recruiting offices throughout th.-state th.-state will have little trouble in gettln the required quota. This new ruling should benefit the greater part of the male students who attend the Univer-city Univer-city of Utah this fall in many respects. In a great many cases the students work their way through school doing Odd jobs, but the system adopted by the government will be one which will no doubt Htand for years to come. Artillerymen, clerks and motor truck drivers are also wanted by the government for Immediate service. Qualified men for these positions ar urged to enlist. The two, three and four years' service clauses aro in or der in this position. Orders have also been received for men for ser ice n the Mexican border and In Siberia. A second message was received to daj reopening enlistments for service in France and Germany, and is as follows fol-lows : "Applicants may now be accepted for service In France and Germany in the signal corps and Infantry for a short time only. This epport unity will not last very long for the signal corp men with the following named vocations voca-tions are especially wanted for the signal sig-nal corps: Telephone operatu reps I men, and linemen, also radio operators Carl .T Proffer of lllmo. Mo., enlisted for the motor transport corps for train ing." |
