Republicans Repub-licans of Utah were to gather hero today to-day to nominate two candidates for the lower house of qongress, three candidates for the supremo court bench and representatives and senators sena-tors to the state legislature. Candidates Candi-dates for county offices were to be nominated at conventions which wore to meet later in tho day. Utah is one of the few states In the west -where the preferential primary is not in force, the old convention system having never been changed in this respect re-spect since the constitution, was adopted, Only three men have been prominently promi-nently mentioned as candidates for congress on the Republican ticket to oppose Representatives Milton H. Welling and James H. Mays, Democratic Demo-cratic incumbents. They are William Spry, former governor of Utah, in the Second district, and W. H. Wattls and A. R. Heywood of Ogden, from the First district. For the supreme court bench candidates can-didates for the nomination up to date include W. J. Barrette, Morris L. Richie, George G. Armstrong, A. H. Christensen and J. E. Frick. The Democratic convention nominated nominat-ed candidates September 30. DEMOCRATS NAME CANDIDATES. SALT LAKE, Oct. 3.
