Show 111 . INVASION BY A Our farmers are warned by C. E. Pettigrew, crop pest inspector, that "white top" has appeared on a wheat farm south of North rigden and on a patch of land on the Riverdale road. This obnoxious weed, once firmly rooted, is as difficult to eliminate as Canadian thistle. Its roots go down five or six feet, and cutting down the growth above the surface, unless persisted per-sisted in. will not kill off the weed. Before white top spreads and claims a large area vigorous measures should be employed to smother it. The statement is made that one farm in Box Elder county of 160 acres was rendered useless by this pest and three years of constant attention will be required to restore the land to crop purposes. |
