Show SKILLED WORKERS BEING SOUGHT HERE ! Edward A. Wlielan, connected with the war department as special representative repre-sentative from an explosives plant at Nilro, W. Va., reached Salt Lake yesterday yes-terday to take charge of the recruiting of from 300 to 500 workmen for positions posi-tions in the Thompson-Sterret company's com-pany's construction department at Nl-tro. Nl-tro. Mr. Whelan is accompanied by C. A. Lewis and R. A. Evans, assistants, and will remain in Salt Lake until all the men required for the West Virginia work, are enlisted. He also wants ten ironworkers, ten steam fitters and ten pipe coverers. headquarters will be maintained at the United States employment bureau, 307 Main street, during the campaign. "I am authorized to offer $4.12 per day for Common labor and the regular scale for skilled men," Mr. Whelan declared de-clared yesterday. He told of excellent living conditions in Nitro, and said workers are receiving from $32.50 to ?45 per week, according to the time they work. Living, he declares, is reasonable, rooms being furnished free for single men and four-room bungalows at $1(S per month for men with families.
