Show I SHOOTING OF YOUNG BOY BY HER OF ORCHARD Charles 13. Handley, who is accused of shooting Vern Elbertson, age 12, in the legs with a shotgun, was bound over to the district court this morning morn-ing by Municipal Judge George S. Barv ker. Bail was set at $500. Vern Elbertson, of 942 Twenty-eighth Twenty-eighth street, is said to have gone to the neighborhood of the fruit orchard .'of Handley and to have decided to try -".some of Handley's green .apples. The "testimony of the plaintiff brought out the fact that the boy with his brother had taken a few green apples from the orchard when approached by Handley who was in possession of a gun. The young hoy who 'was the victim vic-tim of the shot says Handley told him to get out of the orchard and as he was preparing to obey and was climb"-ing climb"-ing the fence to get into the street, when he was shot in the leg. The boy limped into court with the assistance of his father as his wound has not yet sufficiently recovered to permit his use of the left leg and foot. The defendant was represented in court by Attorney N. J. Harris. |
