Show I HEARST PAPERS ARE Over in Nevada, the directors of the County Councils of Defense have met and adopted resolutions condemning the Hearst papers and protesting against tho circulation of the Hearst publications in Nevada. Resolutions, unanimously adopted, ire as follows: "Whereas, it is common knowledge that the Hearst publications have not in the past shown the true American spirit in upholding our country in every emergency. "And whereas, we feel that through their past actions they have Jeopardized Jeopar-dized the interests of the American people and that they will not pmve safe to the American interests in the futuro because of their probable attitude atti-tude in regard to German peace propaganda propa-ganda and the wishes of Germany in treaty rights, "And whereas, we believe ourselves to be tho representatives of tho people of the Slate of Nevada, and the guardians guard-ians of their rights and believing as I aforesaid in me msioyan .iuuuuu ul the Hearst publications and fearing their future attitude; therefore .be it, "Resolved, that we, the state coun-clly coun-clly of defense of tho State of Nevada, in convention assembled with the various va-rious county directors do hereby protest pro-test against the circulation of the various va-rious Hearst publications among the people of our state and do earnestly request that the various news dealers of the state refuse to offer for sale or to handle in a"ny way the said Hearst publications; and if there be such, dealers who, in the face of this resolution reso-lution persist in the handling or offering offer-ing for sale of the said Hearst publications publi-cations that they b.c deemed guilty of disloyalty." Disclosures made in connection with the Boy-Ed conspiracies, pointing to William Hearst as a close friend of the conspirator and statements made by Dr. Davis, the Kaiser's American dentist, who returned from Berlin this spring, have caused the American people peo-ple to be deeply incensed, and action similar to that of tho councils of defense de-fense in Nevada has been predicted by those thoroughly familiar with the course of the Hearst papers. One of the most offensive editorials, dealing wjth the cause of the war, appeared ap-peared in the Hearst papers soon after aft-er America broke off friendly relations rela-tions with Germany. It was built on the hypothesis that Germany was not better prepared for war than was France and Great Britain, and was intended in-tended as an answer to the unerring reasoning of those who said that the guilt of Germany' was absolutely fixed by the overwhelming proof of that country's preparedness and France and Great Britain's Jack of prepared: ncss. At the opening of the war, England did not have ammunition sufficient to keep its small standing army in the field 30 days, and France was deficient defi-cient jn everything necessary to the making "of a successful conflict. The one nation thoroughly armed was Germany. oo |
