Show oo WINNING THE WORLD'S CONTEMPT. We do not recall in modern history a parallel for the German atrocities. Today's dispatches give a detailed account of the conduct of the German crew of the U-boat which has been sinking fishing boats and other craft off the- New England coast. Tho fishermen fish-ermen of one sailing boat were ordered or-dered on to the deck of the submarine subma-rine to be photographed and their pictures pic-tures sent to Berlin. The Americans were mistreated and made to feel the brutality of their captors. The Germans Ger-mans wrapped tho Stars and Stripes around them and then flung down tho flag and stamped on it. As though laboring to win the contempt con-tempt of tho world, the German sailors sail-ors and soldiers are acting tho part of beasts. |
