Two strong enemy attacks last night and this morning in the vicinity ot Noon, which were repulsed easily by the (Trench, gave rise to the question whether the Germans are about to make another attack on their southern south-ern flank. it is quite evident that the German hili command is beginning 1 P' r-ience r-ience some disquietude over tho loss of so many men and the dislocation of so many divisions which has not given the results gjgected. Already considerably more than 100 German divisions ha. been thrown into the lisht and more than seventj divisions have since been withdrawn i to MlJ "P the gaps in the ranks. To the casualties in the divisions, which hayo been witlidruwn must be' added those of divisions still engaged , in battle. They sllU have BUfflcieni .effective st depots to re-establish I their strength, but many of these reserves re-serves are composed ot inferior ele-mentS; ele-mentS; such as convalescents and men who were partly exempted from service ser-vice at the front. These must replace the carefully chosen men forming the rack divisions heretofore used. The total strength of a German di- ision on this front is 13.570 men. of whom 8,400 are infantry, machine gunners gun-ners and cyclists and the remainder nrf illery men, engineers, ambulance attendants, at-tendants, transport workers and a BQUadron Of cavalry. oo |
