Show FOOD PRICES ARE BEING CUT DOWN CHICAGO, Oct 27. The consumer began to realize the benefits of government gov-ernment supervision of food sales yesterday yes-terday when butter prices were slashed from 3 to 6 conts by th local food price committee. This was done in the face of predictions of retail grocers that best grades of butter would be selling at 55 and 58 cents next week. The food committee, after a conference confer-ence with a committee from the Chicago Chi-cago butter and egg committee .decided .decid-ed that from -14 to 49 cents a pound is. a fair price for creamery extras in bulk and that 45 to 50 conts was tho right figure for butter in cartons. Retailers have been asking from 50 1 to 55 cents a pound. On egg costs the board's committee composed of dealers, agreed that 6 cents a dozen on loose eggs and(7V cents on. eggs in cartons would bo a fair profit to the rotailor. Tho price committee also cut the corn meal price from Vt to y2o a pound. A further" cut was promised and a more liberal use of the commodity commod-ity was urged in order to conserve white flour. oo |
