Show ( Mrs. Arthur B.' Porter A Recent Bride v 1 Photo by Ford One of the happy events of the week was the culmination of the little romance of Miss Annie I. Day, charming charm-ing daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Day, and Arthur P. Porter, when Rev. John Edward Carver on Monday evening even-ing last, united them by the holy bonds of wedlock at the Day home, 2217 Van Buren avenue. The bride was daintily sweet in a simply designed gown of white georgette geor-gette over satin and carried a beautiful beau-tiful shower of white roses. Miss Florence Shafcr accompanied her aS" maid of honor and Alex Crosby .attended .at-tended the groom as best man. Mrs. H. H. Day was matron of honor. The home was bright and delightfully delight-fully cheerful with white and yellow chrysanthemums artistically arranged. Refreshments were served and Mrs. Walter Johnson of Rock Springs, Wyo., presided with pleasant grace at the punch bowl. Many gifts of jcut glass and silver, together with varied tokens of esteem, tho handicraft of skillful fingers and the touch of loving hands, were offered of-fered the young couple. Fifty guests witnessed the beautiful beauti-ful ring ceremony and a pleasant social evening, diversified by choice musical selections followed, while merry jokes mingled with best wishes and happy congratulations made the occasion memorable and happy up to the time of the departure of the young couple for a short h&neymoon, "somewhere." "some-where." Mr. and Mrs. Porter will be at home at 1070 Oak sareet after November 1. MRS. HOUX LEAVING FOR LOS ANGELES Mrs. Nettie Nelson Houx will leave Ogden tomorrow for Los Angeles where she will make her home for an Indefinite period. Mrs. Houx has a large circle of friends hero who deeply deep-ly regret her departure and who will look forward to the time when she will return. She has served for some time past on the Ogden Standard as society reporter and has gained an enviable reputation as a clever and diplomatic writer and the warm friendship of her co-workers on the editorial staff. Mrs. Houx's future address will bo at 737 Westlake avenue, Los Angeles, where a pleasant note of remembrance will reach her. FOURTH WARD W. C. T. U. Tho Fourth ward Women's Christian Temperance Union mot at the home of Mrs. A. N. McClure. Tho meeting began with devotional exercises followed with interesting papers. A pleasant time was had by those present The ladies of the ward will do Red Cross work during their winter's meetings. The officers elected for the ensuing year are Mrs. A. M. McClure, president; Mrs. T. J. Linds-trom, Linds-trom, vice president; Mrs. O. V. Len-on, Len-on, treasurer; Mrs. Thomas Bradley, secretary. MRS. BOYLE ENTERTAINS. The bride-to-be is one of the most lovablo and charming of the younger contingent, contin-gent, and Mr. Swaner is prominent in Salt Lake, in which city they will make their home after February 1. Scowcroft assisted the hostess and an inviting lunch topped this charming affair. Shearman brought to a close a few days ago, when they returned from an automobile trip through southern Utah. They journeyed jour-neyed by way of Fillmore to. the" Grand Canyon of the Colorado, in Arizona, returning re-turning via St. George and. Richfield. DINNER PARTY IS PLEASANT EVENT. Tuesday evening of this week. Miss Gerta Woodruff, domestic science instructor in-structor at the Ogden high school, gave a pretty and tempting dinner at her home on Fowler avenue complimenting compli-menting her sister and brother, Miss Alice Gunnell and Mr. Garfield Gun-ncll. Gun-ncll. Six of the high school faculty were guesfs. Miss Alice Gunnell and Garfield Gunnell Gun-nell arc daughter and son of the local well-known judge and have been teaching teach-ing in Manila, Philippine Islands. They are visiting in Ogden with their parents par-ents and a large circle of friends. Miss Woodruff's dinner was a pretty affair, a decorative scheme in Hallowe'en features being carried out to a nicety. At the guests' plates stood yellow carrots car-rots with comical faces painted upon them and yellow candles Inserted in the top. A huge pumpkin with grimacing grim-acing countenance and brilliantly lighted light-ed with a large candle, formed the central cen-tral decoration for the table while throughout the dining room were Hallowe'en Hal-lowe'en novelties. A tempting menu such as Miss Woodruff is capable of preparing was perfectly served and the guests enjoyed en-joyed social chats, especially the experiences ex-periences of the honor guests in the Philippines'. Miss Mary Parmley left on Monday for Chicago where she will enter upon her second year under the Instructions of Professor Becker. She is an accomplished accom-plished violinist, having spent one year at Oberlin college of music in Ohio. MRS. DRAKE RETURNS. Mrs. Mary E. Drake returned to Ogden Og-den last Saturday after a six months sojourn in the east. While away sho visited her three sons, in Denver, Webster Web-ster City, Iowa, and Indianapolis, Indiana, In-diana, respectively. On her return trip she stopped at Fort Riley, Kansas for a short visit with her son, Dr. F. J. Drake, who has been called Into the service and Is in the medical officers' training camp there Mrs. Drake will I make her homo with her daughter and husband here, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Wilson. Wil-son. TO ATTEND MEETING. Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Wilson motored mo-tored to Salt Lake City last Wednesday, Wednes-day, accompanied by Mrs. Mary Mat-son, Mat-son, Mrs. A. B. Corey and Mrs. Archie Bowman. The ladles attended the Utah Federation of Women's Clubs at the University of Utah, and motored back to Ogden in tho evening. MRS. CARMEN HOSTESS.
