Show JUDGE DISCOVERS LOVE ! AFFAIR IN STREET QUARREL Charles Goddard, the young man who was arrested Saturday night when he became engaged in a fight with two young men who protected a young lady, was fined $10 by Judge George S. Barker in the municipal court this morning. The young lady was in court and testified that she went to a dance Saturday Sat-urday night which was attended by I Goddard, whom she had known for about two months and with whom she had been very friendly. Goddard appeared ap-peared to be under the influence of liquor and for that reason she refused to allow him to escort her home. She left the dance hall in company with the two Emmerson boys and had proceeded pro-ceeded to Twenty -fifth street where the fight began, Goddard having followed fol-lowed them When they left the hall and made insulting remarks to her for going with the men who were strangers strang-ers to him. E. A Miller, the young man who took part in the fight and received a cut over his eye at the same time that he struck Goddard in the eye, testified that he was standing on the corner waiting for a car when the two Emmerson Em-merson boys and the young lady came along. He did not know the young lady, but knew the boys and had just joined them when Goddard made an insulting remark to the young lady Miller stepped between the girl and Goddard just as the latter struck the girl, he said. The young lady stated that when Goddard struck her he had intended to strike one of the young men. The light had ju6t started when Officer W. V Richaidson appeared on the scene and placed Goddard under arrest. In imposing the fine. Judge Barker said- "You are lucky, young man, that you have not been charged with violation vio-lation of the prohibition law, for the ! testimony seems to show that you were drunk. I feel, however, that you should be an opportunity to redeem yourself in the eyes of the community and also in the eyes of this young woman, for whom you seem to have a strong affection. There seems to be a love affair here." |
