April 20 --For the I the fourth series of army officers' training camps, to open Mav 15, the ; war department has issued a circular i setting forth conditions which must he j met. in the main, the next training camp will be open to men in the service, serv-ice, but, in addition graduates of rcc ognized colleges which have a military mili-tary training course will be admitted under certain conditions, if they are between the .ices of L'u years and 9 months and 32 venrs and have had at I least one year of militarv instruction at some college or other institution, .under the Bupen ision of an arm officer. of-ficer. For these colleeg graduates, , the war department has drawn up a set of instructions, which read as fob I lows : Men under Class C (that is. gradu-: gradu-: atea of military colleges) should apply In writing to the professor of military I science and tactics of the institution From which they graduated, including the following inform.it ion (a) Full name, (b) years attending the institution; (c) lec.ii residenci ' (d) date and place of birth; (e) citi-Izenship; citi-Izenship; (f) weight and height: (g) la detailed statement of all military service and training: (h) a detailed (statement of all experience and opportunities oppor-tunities for leadership; (1) ihat it is thoroughly understood and agT d that if applicant is selected to attend a training school he will enlisl for the period of the war. thai if not found eligible eli-gible to be enlisted will serve in the ranks, and. if listed as eligible, will remain on duty as an enlisted man until un-til such time as he may be appointed lieutenant; (J) there should be submitted sub-mitted with application a detailed report re-port of physical condition made by a well known doctor surgeon, the scope of this physical examination to be equivalent to that prescribed In regula tions for a commission in the officers' rpspnp rnrnt; the rannlramanti r.f which can be obtained from the officer on recruiting duty in the locality in which the applicant resides; (k) at the time application is mailed, appli cant should have three letters written by three well known and reputable-citizens, reputable-citizens, none of whom should be related relat-ed to him, testifying to his character and standing in the community in j which he lives and giving their opin-i opin-i ion as to the fitness of the applicant for a commission as an officer. These letter should be mailed separately .and directly by the writers lo the authorities au-thorities of the educational institution, and should not be enclosed with application appli-cation All applications must be in the hands of the officials of the educational educa-tional institutions not later than May 1. No applications will be received or ! considered by the war department. The selection of the quota assigned to each educational institution will be I made only by ihe authorities of the 'institution themselves and not by the war department. All inquiries regarding regard-ing the selection of candidates should be made to the authorities of the institution in-stitution and not to the war depart-; I ment. |
