Show MINISTER WILL OPPOSE THE FIGHT To the Editor of The Standard I notice by the announcement in the morninL' papers that Col. Miller has j wired Mr. Dunn and Mr Meek that; he is ready to open negotiations rela-tive rela-tive to bringing , the Willard-Fulton 1 prize fight to Ogden. 1 am sure the I state of Utah does not seek to bring upon her fair name the stigma of per 1 mitting a prize fight to be pulled off within her borders, when practically every other state in the union refuses to permit the bout to occur within itsj borders. Minnesota has just turned it down and surely we in Utah have the. courage of our convictions, enough to! say that we too will not seek the kind Of notoriety which will follow if we allow this affair to be staged in our midst. An opportunity will be given, for every one who opposes this fight j to show his opposition to it And 1 1 desire to notify the promoters tright j now that they will meet with vigor-OUS vigor-OUS opposition it they attempt to stage the battle in Ogden. I now regret very much that we have sat quietly by and permitted "so-called" "so-called" boxing contests to be pulled! off all winter in the armory, as I very much fear that our failure to oppo.e these prize fights has led others to believe that no opposition will appear j against holding the Willard-Fulton ; fight in Ogden. In the future I shall oppose all prize fights in Ogden. I am, yours truly, (Signed) CHRISTIAN 11. CARVER Pastor M. E. Church. |
