Stocks in which initial gains ran to a point or better included such rails as Union Pacific. Reading. New York Central, St. Paul and Chicago & Northwestern, North-western, Mexican Petroleum, Central Leather and American and Baldwin Locomotives. United States Steel opened with a block of 5000 shares at 115 1-4, three-quarters of a point up, this heme; soon extended. Bethlehem Steel new stock, Ciueible Steel. Republic Re-public Iron and leading metals v. ere higher by one to two points with two and one-half for General Electric. The spirited movement of the first half hour gathered fresh momentum, sales of the forenoon being estimated at about 700,000 shares. Of this United Unit-ed States Steel, which continued its advance to 116 1-2, contributed fully 20 per cent. Bethlehem Steel, new and old. Increased their lead to 6 1-2 and 8 points, with 2 to 4 point? for popular equipments, International Nickel, General Gen-eral Motors and oils Shippings also bounded forward, Marine preferred showing a gain of 5 3-4 points and coppers cop-pers averaged advances of 1 1-2. Rails more than held their early advantages, especially Union Pacific, St. Taul and Baltimore & Ohio. Bonds were firm.
