Show BASEBALL LEAGUE 10 BE ORGANIZED FOR SEASON That Ogden is to have a high-class amateur baseball league this summer' was made a foregone conclusion last night, when about twenty baseball players and enthusiastic supporters of the game met at Browning Brothers" store and formed a temporary organization. organ-ization. Shirey, former athletic coach of the Ogden high j school, called the meeting to order and after a period of desultory discussion of the prospects for a baseball league, a decision was made to start the ball rolling by forming a temporary organization. organ-ization. By unanimous vote, J. E. Stone. manager of the Southern Pacific shops team, and Alonzo West were elected chairman and secretary. In businesslike business-like fashion. Chairman Stone asked and received expressions from different differ-ent men of experience present ns to the number of teams needed to form , the league and the grounds where the ball games should be played. Mr. Shirey announced that the city commissioners com-missioners were heartily in favor of an amateur baseball as one of the at-, tractions to keep the Ogden people in , town on Sundays and holidays, and that City Park Commissioner Miles L. Jones had proffered the use of the Olenwood park athletics grounds to ' the league, without cost except for the expense of keeping them in playing condition. On motion, an organization committee commit-tee was elected, consisting of six team managers present. J. E. Stone. Vandy Layman, Alvin Mortensen, I, eland Wil Hams George Wossler and B. M. Huehes. This committee was Instruct ed to meet Friday evening and Sunday Sun-day afternoon to formulate 63 laws and a tentative plan of organization and the organization meeting was set for j next Monday night. |
