Counselor Polk gave out the following follow-ing statement: ' The report that the president Is preparing to send a new note to the I belligerent powers is false and without j any loundation. The president has no second note in contemplation." Following the cabinet meeting Secretary Sec-retary Lansing announced that Presi dent Wilson had authorized him to say that the American government had no other note in contemplation and that such information was being sent H to all American diplomatic representa-i representa-i Ives abroad. Secretary Lansing would not discuss ihe quostion further, but it was under-stood under-stood that the reason for the an- j nouncemcnt was an impression on the part of the administration that another note would be sent and wuod affect the entente's reply to the president'.- !j first note expected here in the near oo iH |
