Show CITY EIIEfl SEEKS TO SERVE THE PEOPLE City Engineer Joseph M. Tracy assured as-sured a representative of The Standard Stan-dard today that his sole aim in making the estimates for tho Washington ave-enue ave-enue paving was to comply, honestly and intelligently, with tho wishes of the Washington avenue property owners, own-ers, as expressed in their petition for the paving. "They petitioned for paving with an asphalt top," he said. I specified in my estimates a six-inch concreto base with an asphaltum wearing surface. I found the total cost would be $112,GG0, Including curbs and gutters, waterworks, water-works, pipes, reinforcement, sewer connections and water connections to the curb lines, and I don't believe the work can bo done for less, with this kind of paving. ''The property owners don't seem to want a concrete pavement. I should think, however, that concrete would be good. We want to give them what they want. My notice of intention legally le-gally must specify some particular kind of paving." Mr. Tracy was assured Tho Standard's Stan-dard's only aim was to givo the property prop-erty owners all the facts, with a view to informing them of the comparative coat, so they may decldo intelligently what they want. He was told that the people undoubtedly would like to have him submit estimates of the three different dif-ferent kinds of paving, these being concrete, con-crete, such as the county prefers; concreto con-creto with the bltulithlc patented top, on which a heavy royalty must be paid, and concreto with, tho sheet asphalt surfaco. Mr. Tracy said his estimates, as already al-ready submitted, would placo both the bltulithlc and sheet asphalt concerns in competition. |
