Show OGDEN CII! LEAGUE TO BE OPENING GAME MAY 6 ' Arrangements for the launching of the Ogden City baseball league were materially furthered last night at a mooting of managers, heia at Browning Brown-ing Brothers' store. It is planned to open the official season May 6th, and to play tho concluding games on Labor La-bor Day. That tho players might havo an extra incentive to play ball at home, it was tentatively agreed last night that, after 10 percent of the monthly gross receipts had been turned into the Ogden city treasury, that tho net receipts be divided between be-tween the clubs and then sub-divided botween the players. It was also virtually arranged to stage double-header entertainments on alternate Sunday only, thus leaving each team freo to accept a Sunday engagement out of town once a month. Saturday afternoon play was also discussed dis-cussed and it is probable that theso dates throughout the summer will be left open for the teams to bring outside out-side clubs to Ogden or to play out of town. Regularly scheduled practice games, will probably be played Wednesday Wed-nesday evenings and with at least three contents a week, the players should be able to keep in fast form all season. Tho meeting was conductpd by President Raymond Shorey, who was authorized to draw up a new section to the constitution, providing for a division of the surolus funds. Secretary Secre-tary Alonzo WeBt was .authorized to draw up a tentative schedule for the 1917 season to bo discussed and revised, re-vised, If necessary, and passed upon at the next meeting. J. W. O'Brien, representing the Utah Power & Light team, announced the withdrawal of that club from the tentative list of four that aro to form the league. Mr. O'Brien expressed regret that this action had been found necessary and before leaving the meeting, meet-ing, made some excellent suggestions tending to make the 1917 league season sea-son a success. While this was not raado certain last night, Representative Representa-tive Hughes of the Ogden Packing Provision company baseball club was present and participated in the discussions and it is thought that the "Mountain Brands" will be persuaded per-suaded to fill the vacancy left by tho withdrawal of the Utah Powor & Light team. Representative Mann of the Southern South-ern Pacific organization announced that the Ogden Southern Pacific Mechanics Me-chanics band would not only contribute contrib-ute its services at the games in which the S P team participated, but at all the games, throughout the season. This announcement was received with manifest pleasure by the assombled magnates. On motion of Mr Mann, following the presentation of favorable arguments argu-ments by President Shirey and Mana-gor Mana-gor Leland Williams of the Washington Washing-ton Market team, it was agreed that each club should deposit $25 forfeit money as assurance of playing out the season These deposits are to be made April 14 The next meeting was set for Tuesday evening, April 17th. |
